Do not Order a dell computer

Dell computers have parts that require replacement parts that you can only get from Dell. I found this out the hard way. I have a 2 year old computer that needs a new motherboard. Only, I can't get just any old motherboard, it has to be from Dell. Not only that, but you can't just get the motherboard. You have to purchase the whole "systemboard kit", so that the motherboard will fit into their casing.

I highly discourage anyone purchasing a Dell. It's a trap. If parts fail, you have to rely on Dell. Getting their parts cost me 3 times the amount it would have normally. That turns a $50 purchase into a $150 expense for no other reason than joining the Dell family of computers. If you get their 3 year warranty, then great! You're already sucked into their trap. Might as well fall for it and extend that warranty. That cheap computer you purchased just got more expensive. Paying 400 for a PC and then adding this and that and the warranty can bump your cost to 800 easy. You might as well have paid a local computer store for their brand. You'll get a better product and better support from somewhere other than Dell. It will be cheaper in the short run than getting all that warranty and headache. And when a part goes out, you don't have to pay 3 times the normal amount to fix it. Do yourself a favor and don't purchase a Dell.

Dell cannot be relied upon. I attempted to order a replacement part online. The website gave me the runaround and eventually told me that I could not order the part because I wasn't in their system. So, I ordered over the phone. While waiting for a sales rep, I get a message saying I can order online. Once I placed the order, I asked for it to be overnight. They told me that it takes 24 hours to package the product and then it would be overnight. That was fine. I was told on Sunday that the product would be delivered on Tuesday. Come Tuesday, the package did not arrive. I checked with their delivery status. It was flagged to being shipped out on Thursday. I was going to have to wait an additional 3 days. So, I waited. Come Friday morning, I checked the status of the delivery. My order had been canceled. The webpage gave me a number to call to find out why. When I called the rep could not give me an answer and said that I could re-order the product. I kept asking why I should do that when my order might get canceled again. She said that Customer Care would be able to help me. So, I said to transfer me. The customer care rep kept saying she could not help me because the order had been canceled. WTF? No amount of prodding would get her to actually help me get an answer. She said that the sales department could reorder the part and then she could help me. That made no sense to me, but I had her transfer me to sales. Once I got to sales, this rep was able to find out that the order was canceled because the customer no longer wanted the product. WTF? I informed her that I did not cancel the order. I asked when the order was canceled. She said it was canceled on Thursday. I asked her how it was canceled, by phone? She checked and discovered that it was not canceled by the customer. It was canceled because the did not have the part. No one called me to let me know the order was canceled. No one called me to let me know the order would not arrive on Tuesday as originally promised. They were just going to let it hang there and nothing would have gotten done.

So, if you would like to avoid these kinds of problems, don't buy a Dell.
